Okinawa 2014 – a remarkable day

Kids classes at the Hombo Dojo are over for today. My kids are sleeping and now it is time to review this remarkable day!

Shihan Jhonny called me from Okinawa today – as he did every day of his stay over there – telling me about the daily training routine. Since april 21st, 2014 he and a group of 10 students are over there for their annual training visit. You are probably reading this asking yourself why that’s so remarkable because it happens every year. But let me finish the “prologue”!

They had fabulous training sessions in Chi Ryu Aiki Jitsu, Hachiman Ryu and Matayoshi Kobudo all week. But this changed when Yamashiro Sensei invited Shihan Jhonny and  our two Kobudo Sensei Peter Scholz and Sven Gössner to visit his dojo in Komesu today. This morning the three of them went there and were surprised by Yamashiro Sensei teaching them Sansetsukon and Tinbe making their stay even more amazing. I was happy to hear that Peter San and Sven San were embraced by Yamashiro Sensei in the same warm and open hearted way like I was when visiting him with Shihan Jhonny in December last year. Peter San and Sven San are very dedicated students, deserving being honoured by teaching them those Katas. Shihan Jhonny told me that he was proud to have them by his side.

As a side note he then told me that Yamashiro sensei decided to make me, Kathrin from Hechtel, Belgium his uchi deshi in Matayoshi Kobudo and teaching me his knowledge about the art I love so much. Just a second later I was completely shocked, overrun by speechlessnes and thankful for sitting on a chair.

So here I am sitting on my sofa letting this sink, feeling honoured and overwhelmed. This would not have happened if Shihan Jhonny hadn’t thaught me Matayoshi Kobudo the way he did during all those years.

That’s why this day is remarkable. But actually all days are remarkable being surrounded by such skillful people.

Thank you for putting your trust in me.

Kathrin Siggelkow
