Instructor Seminar 2-5 of June 2011

It is my pleasure to bring you a handful of news and impressions from the Chi Ryu Aiki-jitsu Instructor Seminar 2011, that took place last Thursday to Sunday.

The event brought up together high ranked students and masters from Germany, Denmark, Hungary and Poland. Some of us came with wives and children which nicely strengthened the meaning of Chi Ryu Family. The topic for this years seminar was Throws and Throwing in Chi Ryu. The seminar was lead by Shihan Jhonny Bernaschewice and Shihan Andreas Baron together. They have wisely split the parts of subjects between themselves. Shihan Andreas explained throws the way they function in Kodokan Judo until now, while Shihan Jhonny described his thoughts and how he sees throws in Chi Ryu Aiki-jitsu.

The seminar had both challenged mind and body as we participated in lectures and practical trainings. Shihan Andreas as usually showed great effort in thorough research and preparation for the course. We started with throws classification and principles of throwing. Then followed to analyse stages of throws where Shihan Jhonny also explained the implications of Chi Ryu Aiki-jitsu to kuzushi principles. We took time to go through problems of teaching/learning throws at different age and levels. We learnt and discussed methods from ukemi to advanced techniques not only to improve the effectiveness of trainings but also to bring up more fun to it.

Going through Ashi-waza, Koshi-waza, Te-waza, Katame-waza, Sutemi-waza we have discussed, threw and been thrown to analyse and better understand classical Judo Nage-waza and Chi Ryu Nage-waza. It has been greatly beneficial to listen to Shihan Jhonny explain his ideas of how throws function in Chi Ryu. They were also followed by perfect examples we could practise to our content.

Shihan Andreas also prepared some challenging tasks to keep our minds working on the subjects even in our free time 🙂 They included classification of Chi Ryu program techniques and Chi Ryu Nage-no Kata discussion.

The seminar ended with the subjects of condition training and stress inducing methods in learning throws as well as Chi Ryu program. It was very interesting to hear and see how instructors apply Judo methods in Chi Ryu training and discuss some of the ideas that came up.

Though I mentioned we were pretty occupied through the most of the day we still managed to have quite a few conversations among the participants and teachers which let us know each other a bit more and integrate a bit better. The whole seminar has really brought us a lot of knowledge and satisfaction 🙂

In addition, these days not only were one of the best seminars I have ever attended. There has also been a great celebration in the Chi Ryu Aiki-jitsu School and honor to eight of the attendants.

At the good-bye ceremony on Sunday morning there has been last one distinguishment. Shihan Jhonny Bernaschewice presented me with a function and certificate of President of Chi Ryu Aiki-jitsu in Poland. I hope to live up to this honorary duty and help as much as possible for the benefit of Chi Ryu Aiki-jitsu.
