Report from the seminar in the Hombo Dojo (May 2-3, 2009)

Last weekend a group from Neubrandenburg (Germany) under leadership of Dietmar Panster came to visit the Hombo Dojo. Shihan Jhonny Bernaschewice taught Chi Ryu Aiki-Jitsu, Okinawa Kobudo as well as self-defense with the Kubotan. On Saturday morning techniques from the art of Chi Ryu Aiki-Jitsu were the main topic. The students learned combinations of basic movements. The afternoon was dedicated to Okinawa Kobudo where the students started with the first 5 basic movements with the Bo. Moreover, they studied the first part of the first Bo Kata (Syushi no Kun) and some basics with the Tunkwa.
On Sunday Shihan Bernaschewice gave them an insight into the use of vital points in martial arts. He insisted on explaining not only the effects of using those points, but also the dangers of misusing them. Techniques with vital point stimulations are often shown in books or on seminars with their destructive effects, but an advice about the dangers of misusing them is always missing. Therefore, he stressed that those techniques have to be shown with an awareness for the effects of using them wrong. After this first part he continued with a repetition of the Bo techniques. In addition to that, the students also learned some basic movements with the Sai. The last hour was dedicated to self-defense aspects of certain techniques. It was very nice to have this group in our dojo as it was very long ago, that Dietmar had visited Shihan Bernaschewice in his dojo.

Here are some impressions from the weekend…
