Sansetsukon with a helmet

The last 2 days were very exciting. I met Hamamoto Sensei for the first time at the Budokan in Naha. He is such a lovely person and a very patient teacher. We started our training with the first 12 Kata of Hachiman Ryu, a lot for the first training. The practice at home payed off and Sensei Hamamoto was quite satisfied. After 2 hours of training we enjoyed a nice meal at a local restaurant. Soup with chopsticks. We payed a visit to Sogenji Stone Gate near Shureido before heading to Yamashiro Sensei’s dojo. There we trained from 16:30 to 19:30. Our topics were Sai and Sansetsukon. Sensei Yamashiro answered our detailed questions patiently before switching to Sansetsukon. As you can see from the pictures we had a lot of fun working with this weapon. In order to protect my head from being damaged by the Sansetsukon, Yamashiro Sensei brought a helmet for me, no Samurai helmet but a helmet for riding a motorbike. Don’t worry, my head is still on my shoulders. Yamashiro Sensei also showed us the adaption for the Sansetsukon in Bunkai with the Timbe. You better run and protect yourself with the Timbe before being hit by Sensei’s Sansetsukon! Yamashiro Sensei then took us to see his son teaching Taiko drum playing to children and youth. Only one word describes this experience: impressive!
