Okinawa day 4 and 5

Friday, April 1st, 2016

by Sven

Today we made no exception to our routine of driving to Itoman. The training was conducted by Yamashiro Sensei. Unfortunately he had to leave early due to family matters but he left us with a very good substitute: Sempai Katsuki San took over the lesson and we continued our training with him. Together we examined the first of the Bo Kata in detail. We split the kata in short sequences and trained them thoroughly with Katsuki San. He gave us hints and explained the kata according to the teachings of Yamashiro Sensei. The time with him passed by way too quickly.

Okinawa 2016 day 2 and 3

by Sven

We had a perfect start into our first day of training here on Okinawa. It was the first time ever that we had the opportunity to enjoy our breakfast together at the minshuku. Allmost all of us had bacon and egg with loads of toast. It was terrific.  Peter was the one who got up early in order to visit the local playground. As many of you know, Peter is a certified Tai Chi instructor. He starts his day always with a Tai Chi exercise and being on Okinawa makes no exception to this.

Visit to the local primary school in Hechtel (Belgium)

For the second time I was invited by the PE teacher and the head of the local primary school “De Zandkorrel” in Hechtel to teach Chi Ryu Aiki-Jitsu and Okinawa Kobudo. About 250 kids enjoyed a very special PE class and looking at the pictures below it seems they had a lot of fun. During the classes the children experienced that fighting in a secured surrounding according to special rules has nothing to do with brutality but with building up self esteem.

Yawara Ryu Magdeburg at the Honbu Dojo

We had the pleasure to have Sensei Anja and her students from Magdeburg here at the Honbu Dojo. From February 1st to 5th the dojo floor was burning! All of the students were so enthusiastic and inspiring during their training sessions. While Shihan Jhonny was busy with some students preparing for the next step in Chi Ryu Aiki-Jitsu Shihan Kathrin had the pleasure to teach Cedric (12 years) in Okinawa Kobudo. This were his first steps into a new style and he obviously liked it a lot. We were able to learn a whole new kata during the week.
